Homesteading classes

Homesteading classes
These classes are aimed for very novice students who have an interest in having a homestead or a farm someday or livestock.
Rosalie was an Animal Science major at the University of California at Davis then plunged into farming in 2008. Rosalie has many failures that she has learned from and would love to share her experience of raising healthy livestocks for future farmers or homesteaders.
4/27, 10 AM- 2 PM: Who came first? The chicken or the egg?
Interested in keeping chickens? This is the best hands-on class for you. Learn how to handle chickens from hatching to laying hens. What feed to use? What coop do you need? What fence system to use. How do I know an old hen is still laying.
6/25 and 6/29: 10AM- 2 PM: Have you ever wondered how to braid garlic? This is a fun class that coincides with my garlic harvest. You can make pretty braids decorated with flowers to enhance the look of the braid for a beautiful gift for your friends and family or even yourself.
5/13 and 6/10, 8 AM-12 pm: Meat bird processing day. You may want to learn to process a chicken for your homestead or for yourself at some point in time. Rosalie can help you with a humane dispatching method and will show you how to cut up a chicken once we are done.
Always bring a lunch or a dish to share.
Teaching is very informal, and questions are encouraged. Wear casual clothes with good walking/hiking shoes. Bring garden gloves for the garlic braiding and disposable gloves for the processing workshops.
We ask that you leave your pets at home.
You can purchase the processed chicken or the garlic at the end of the class.
